Studio Disinfection Protocol: Oxivir® Excel vs. Oxivir® Sporicide

This protocol establishes clear operational rules for environmental sanitation and equipment maintenance within the studio. By leveraging Diversey’s Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide (AHP®) technology, this two-tier system ensures maximum pathogen protection while prioritizing surface longevity and staff safety.

Tier 1: Oxivir® Excel — Daily Workstation & Mid-Shift Turnovers

Oxivir Excel is the primary daily workhorse. It is engineered for rapid virucidal and bactericidal action between clients, keeping workstation turnover fast and efficient without demanding restrictive safety precautions.

1. Targeted Areas & Equipment

• High-Touch Client Zones: Client chairs, adjustable armrests, headrests, and positioning wedges.
• Station Logistics: Work carts, Mayo trays, external surfaces of power supplies, clip cords, and machine barriers.
• Hardware Control Surfaces: Countertops, tablets, smartphones, and mirrors used in the procedure area.

2. Key Pathogen Defenses & Dwell Times

• Full Virucidal (HIV, HBV, HCV, Coronavirus, Norovirus): Surfaces must stay wet for 30 seconds.
• Bactericidal Efficacy: Surfaces must stay wet for 30 seconds to 1 minute (depending on the wipe or liquid format used).
• Yeasticidal (Candida albicans): Requires a 5-minute dwell time.

3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & Handling

• PPE Requirement: None mandated by regulatory guidelines. Oxivir Excel carries no hazard classifications, contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or respiratory irritants, and is completely non-irritating to skin and eyes at standard concentrations.
• Note: Standard procedure gloves are still recommended during application to maintain general hygienic practices.

Tier 2: Oxivir® Sporicide — Critical Decontamination & High-Risk Setup

Oxivir Sporicide is an ultra-high-efficacy intervention tool reserved for deep environmental cleaning and preparing surfaces that interact directly with critical procedure tools.

1. Targeted Areas & Equipment

• Sterile Field Scaffolding: Stainless steel instrument trays and tool preparation benches before sterile piercing packages or microblading blades are laid out.
• Deep Environmental Targets: Decontamination benches, sink areas where contaminated tools are processed, biohazard waste bin exteriors, and studio floors.
• Outbreak Control: Any surface area exposed to known high-risk gastrointestinal or spore-forming pathogens.

2. Key Pathogen Defenses & Dwell Times

• Bacterial Spores (Clostridioides difficile): Surfaces must stay wet for 1 minute under clean conditions, 3 minutes under dirty conditions, or 5 minutes when using the structural wipe format.
• Resilient Mold & Fungi (A. brasiliensis): Requires a 6 to 7-minute wet contact time.
• Mycobacteria (M. avium & M. terrae): Requires a 5 to 10-minute contact time.
• Standard Bacteria & Viruses: Eradicated completely in 1 minute.

3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & Handling

• PPE Requirement: Mandatory use of protective gloves is strictly required when handling Oxivir Sporicide wipes or foam.
• Chemical Precautions: While safer than bleach, its enhanced sporicidal chemistry makes it reactive to certain metals. Do not use on surfaces composed of brass, copper, or zinc alloys.

Execution Protocol (How to Apply Both Lines)

1. Pre-Clean Gross Soils: If a surface is heavily contaminated with blood, ink, or organic debris, pre-clean the area first before applying the disinfecting layer.
2. Ensure Uniform Wetness: Apply the wipe or active foam systematically across the surface. Ensure the material leaves a continuous, visible film of liquid.
3. Respect the Dwell Time: Let the surface air-dry naturally. If the surface dries before the target pathochemical dwell time is reached (e.g., 30 seconds for Excel virucidal or 5 minutes for Sporicide C. diff defense), immediately pull a fresh wipe to re-wet the area.
4. Enforce Cross-Contamination Boundaries: Always discard the wipe immediately when moving between distinct zones (e.g., moving from a procedure table to a public counter) or when the substrate stops transferring moisture to the surface.
